God damn the use of lighting in this scene. The sound track, the cinematography, the dialogue, the acting, the armor designs. LOTR was truly outstanding in every aspect of cinema.

Frodo fighting over the Ring after losing it being the cause of its destruction feels wrong. When Frodo fails to destroy it, we see the Ring's power to corrupt is absolute. But then the Ring's destruction is directly caused by its own corrupting power over Frodo, but this corruption was necessary for the Ring's self-preservation and still comparatively modest. It works better when the Ring's mistake was a kind of hubris in corrupting Gollum too much. The most fitting proximate cause of the Ring's destruction is the very tool it forged over *centuries*, but now so pathetic it is forgotten by it. When the time came, it abandoned Gollum, discarded him, but had driven him to such madness and obsession that Gollum could not mind his surroundings in the critical moment, while the Ring could not relinquish the infatuation it kindled in Gollum's poisoned mind to prevent his being there in the first place. Even as Sauron underestimated the Hobbits' strength and resolve, the Ring underestimated Gollum's.

The extended editions on HBO have been re-edited… this is my favorite scene and I watched them on HBO and they changed it to black and white

I know a lot has already been mentioned, but one more thing that I found noteworthy, is how Bilbos personality changed after he left the ring behind. Starting with that cheery, almost playful attitude, and then ending with: "And he lived happily ever after, until the end of his days", an in a way hopeful and optimistic, but also notably more serious, somber and somewhat grimmer statement. Almost as if he was wearing a sort of mask all the time, and only after he left the ring behind we got to see his real face.

They'll pay even more for alchemy in the sciences or engineering, but they expect you to deny the feminine. At the top of wealth one becomes a god beyond the grasp of Jesus and merely collects the proofs of the spirit. They are beyond money. Here one may glimpse the wealth of the One Ring, between the fires of alchemy and becoming a god, by which it is tossed in the flames as Sauron becomes even more wealthy. Forth and fear no darkness

There’s something about watching The Hobbit first, then working my way down to The Lord Of The Rings and to the end that makes it way more emotional, at least for me. I’m so glad I’ve done it this way. The massive unexpected journey I was taken on has finally ended. I’m gonna be so depressed for a while😅

When i come back to watch this it usually means things arent going so well but I'm glad its here, now more than ever. A new day always comes and we are still here. To the next.

When Frodo and Gollum were fighting each other, the ring must have been like "NO!! STOP IT YOU IDIOTS! THE EDGE IS RIGHT THERE!!!" For the first time, its temptation was its undoing.

Boromir and Aragorn are two sides of one coin. Both are completely terrified, but for different reasons. Boromir is terrified of failing his people, but has tremendous confidence is himself. This confidence in himself is how he deals with his fear - if he believes that he can save others, then he can manage his fear. Aragorn, on the other hand, fails to take responsibility for his people BECAUSE he has no confidence in himself. What is so special about these characters, especially scenes like this, is that the characters learn from each other and heal through intersecting character arcs. Aragorn would not have become the kingly man he ultimately became if he did not learn to love his people fully, to the extent of self-sacrifice, as taught to him through Boromir’s example. Boromir would not have repented trying to steal the ring from Frodo if not for Aragorn’s example of questioning one’s own hubris. Boromir’s death scene is Boromir’s total acceptance of the abandonment of his pride, and Aragorn’s decision to take up Boromir’s burden to protect their people. King Aragorn in the healthy and effective synthesis of “the Ranger” and the man that Boromir taught him to be through his unwavering love for Gondor.

The pictures of swords drawn by King Théoden and Aragorn would be worth hundreds of million dollars by now. Such a pity it was lost.

I recently went to the AMC three night event of the Lord of the rings trilogy and it was such a fun time seeing these movies on the big screen for the first time. So much so that when each movie ended, there was a loud applause by fans but lemme say this, Return of the King had the loudest applause of them all. It was great to see this in theaters and chances are, when they re-release them again, I’ll go and see them again.

The emotion in this scene isn't present in the book unfortunately. There is no "my brother, my captain, my king." This is the one part of Tolkien's work that Peter Jackson did actually make better.
